How many of you are fascinated by nails? I know I am, I’ve always really wanted long strong nails. But alas I am stuck with brittle nails, that can’t grow past a certain length without breaking. To be fair to my own body they have gotten better over the years but you know… they still break.
7 years ago I got my first set of acrylic nails
During my year in Michigan, I got to live with Kim a nail-tech and she gave me my very first set of nails (that weren’t those awful press-on’s). Ever since I’ve had a fascination with nails, fake or real.
Then I heard of gel-lack and i was like wow – nail polish that doesn’t chip! What is that like! Regular nail polish stays un-chipped on my nails for about 3 min… If it even gets a chance to dry before I ruin it.
Since then I’ve considered buying a nail starter kit every once in a while. I’ve looked at both acrylic and gel sets multiple times but never taken the plunge. Mostly because I thought I needed qualifications to do nails but also because I never quite felt like I had the money. Looking back I had so much money while I was living home with my parents…
Anyways I was always a little too scared to buy any of these kits so I stuck to my sucky nail polish and chipped nails.
That is until now!
I saw a video on youtube about this product called hybrid gel or poly-gel, a hybrid between acrylic and gel nails.
It was clear from the video that this was a system that is easy to use as a novice – I definitely fall into that category. After watching a few videos on the topic I was sold! If I was ever to get any nail system now was the time.
So I hopped online, bought a set and, did my first set of poly-nails!
My first Nail Design
I wanted to keep the colors neutral and suitable for everyday wear.
I went with a neutral pink color on thumb, index, and pinky finger. Since the set came with glitters I wanted to try an inlay with pink glitter for my third and fourth fingers on each hand. The glitter mix is slightly different from hand to hand, I don’t really mind since they are still the same colorway.
I don’t think you can see it in the pictures but I know there are a few mistakes here and there. I definitely need to work on my sidewalls and filling techniques (I was a little hard on myself thus the redness around all my nails). They are also slightly too long for my tasting, I got carried away with the sculpting… Aside from that, I think these are pretty good for a first attempt.
